Kate
Kate came to Thunder Bay all the way from sunny down under, the Gold Coast of Australia. She moved for love and jokes “now I can’t escape” due to covid (but we like to think we’ve convinced her to stick around for awhile).
With a last name of Strange, she credits her mom for raising her to genuinely be herself and be proud of the differences she has. She loves to be by the ocean and in the sun, surrounded by friends and family. This last year has shown Kate that she is a relatively positive person and ‘can overcome anything with a great attitude and support network.” Fun fact - she was a long haul flight attendant for 12 years.
Being the lover of summer and sunshine she is, Kate finds the weather in Thunder Bay to be a bit arctic-like and not unlike any place she has been before. However, “the community spirit and love local vibe is amazing. I would hands down not be as successful as I am back home like I am here.” An owner of a local business, she has felt supported and embraced by the city and is incredibly thankful. “I feel as though for someone only being here for a short period time and moving here not knowing anyone I'm now surrounded by SO many amazing people that support me and embrace who I am.”
Her favourite spot in the city just may be her home, with a beautiful view of downtown Port Arthur and the Giant from her bedroom window. Her pup Goldie also enjoys the sunrise views. She is also awaiting the opening of patio season in the city to enjoy some of her favourite local spots.
One item (or three) items she can’t live without out would be soda water, face cream, and her 2004 Sunfire. “It keeps me humble and I love the way it slides in the snow around corners.” (We’ll keep an eye out for you on the roads next winter.)
