Dominique
Dominique hails from the province to the west, Manitoba. Her husband is from Thunder Bay originally and after living in Winnipeg for some time, they had decided to get back to nature and made the move to the city to raise their kids. She is a Metis citizen and is a doula. “My passion is to advocate for and support birthing people in my community.”
“I truly find joy in the simple things... the smell of rain, the night sky in Quetico Park, others laughing heartily, good coffee, seeing my children learn from their elders, a clean house (a nearly impossible feat with three kids and a white husky in our home), the smell of the deep forest, poutine and fresh bread, hahaha! Keep life simple and it will rarely disappoint you! … I do love to get creative by drawing and making jewelry from up-cycled or natural elements!”
Dominique believes that life in Thunder Bay is what you make of it. It may not be for everyone, but it will change you. “It will open your eyes to natural beauty all the while exposing you to the rawness of humanity none of us want to look at head on.” She sees Thunder Bay as her home and the cold weather as a challenge she loves to take on.
Dominique is not ready to give up her secrets when it comes to her favourite spot in Thunder Bay, but she does love being on the sandy shores of Lake Superior. One thing she couldn’t, and wouldn’t, want to live without would be her natural skin care and of course, coffee!
She feels most connected to the community during live music events and can’t wait until the day we are able to gather once more to share in a musical experience. This last year, Dominique has learned to be more grateful for what she has and to be there for her children. “While my children make unknown sacrifices in their learning and social growth I feel the responsibility to set a good example and remind myself that I am truly fortunate.”
